5 Reasons Why You Should Get Tested For Covid-19

1. Test to Release

Launched in December 2020, the Test to Release scheme means that passengers arriving into England from countries that aren’t on the government’s travel corridors list can exit their self-isolation early after returning to the country. By taking a PCR test 5 days after arrival, individuals can leave quarantine and return to their day-to-day life as soon as the result is back - assuming that the result is negative.

2. To travel abroad

Many countries now require that you present proof of a negative test for Covid-19 on entry. Passengers must get tested prior to their flight and it’s recommended that they obtain a fit-to-fly certificate, ideally signed by a medical professional, to show their results. Most countries require the gold-standard PCR test, although some countries have recently adopted the faster LAMP test for Covid-19. Even if the country you are travelling to does not require proof of a negative Covid-19 status, we recommend that you get tested, giving you peace of mind that you're not going to be spreading the virus.

3. To see your family safely

As of January 5th 2021, every nation in the United Kingdom is under blanket lockdown restrictions meaning that right now you cannot mix with other households indoors, albeit with a few exceptions. When lockdown measures are eased or come to an end, some indoor mixing may be allowed in certain areas. Getting tested for Covid-19 before you mix with others takes the pressure off knowing that you are not spreading the virus. No one wants to give their elderly relatives Covid-19 not knowing that they had it themselves.

4. If you are showing symptoms of Covid-19

Whether you have a high temperature, a new continuous dry cough, loss or change to your sense of taste or smell, you should get tested for Covid-19 as these are the most common symptoms of the virus. It is also important that you stay at home until you get your result to avoid any potential spread of Covid-19.

5. You’ve been exposed to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19

If you find that you’ve been exposed to someone who has symptoms or who has tested positive for Covid-19, you should self-isolate immediately and get tested. Once you've got your test result and if it’s negative, you can leave isolation. It is important that you get tested whether you have symptoms or not after being exposed to someone who has, as you may be asymptomatic.
