Testing for non-fully vaccinated travellers

If you're travelling or returning to the UK and you’re not fully vaccinated, you’ll face more stringent testing rules. These requirements replace the traffic light system.

Pre-departure test: Take a test no earlier than 72 hours before starting your journey. Quick and easy with our rapid antigen test.

Post-arrival: Take a Qured PCR test on Day 2 and another on Day 8 after arrival.

Quarantine: 10 days, but you can opt for our Test to Release kit, a PCR test on Day 5, allowing you to exit quarantine early and get back to doing the things you love.

Pre-departure test: How it works

  1. Book your test well in advance of your departure. We will send a kit that you can take with you for your return to the UK.

  2. If you’ve chosen our video call option, we’ll send you a link to schedule a video call with our Health Advisor. Make sure you arrange the consultation in the correct time frame to have your test accepted.

  3. Follow the instructions to take your test and submit your result for verification. If you’ve booked a video call, log on to your consultation a few minutes before it starts - our Health Advisor will walk you through the test from start to finish.

  4. We’ll let you know as soon as your official result is available. Log in to your account to download your results and 'Return to the UK' certificate.

Day 2 and 8 testing: How it works

  1. Head to our booking portal and select ‘Day 2 and Day 8 testing’. Sign in, or, if you're new, register in just a few moments.

  2. Complete the 'UK entry form' for yourself and anyone else you're booking for. You'll need your arrival date and passport number(s) for this.

  3. Your kits will be dispatched for arrival on or before Day 2. Remember, your arrival date is Day 0!

  4. Follow the instructions to take your tests and return to the lab.

  5. Look out for your results; you should receive them within 24-48 hours of the lab checking in your test. Once you’ve completed your Day 8 test and have your results, you’ll be able to exit quarantine.

Don’t want to quarantine for ten days? Test to Release is the solution.

Choose our Test to Release kit. Take a PCR test on Day 5 of your self-isolation, and once you have a negative test result, you can exit quarantine early.

FAQs

Fit-to-Fly tests for departures from the UK

Most countries now require proof of a negative Covid-19 test for entry.  Please check your destination country requirements for the type of test required and the time window during which you need to take it before departure:

  • PCR: Negative PCR tests are widely accepted. After checking your destination country's requirements, use our travel calculator to determine when you should order your test.

  • Antigen Test: A number of other countries also accept a negative Covid-19 rapid antigen test for entry. These lateral flow tests (LFDs) are faster and less expensive than PCR tests.  If you have confirmed that your destination country accepts LFDs, book your test delivery and video consultation in the required time window before travelling.

From Monday 4 October
  • With different rules for red, amber and green countries, the current traffic light system will be replaced with a new system: red list (countries that pose a particular risk and require additional COVID-19 testing and measure), and everywhere else (countries deemed safer to travel).

  • Fully-vaccinated travellers travelling to England will no longer need to do a pre-departure test before they set off.

  • Fully-vaccinated travellers must take a Day 2 PCR test.

  • Non-fully vaccinated travellers must take a pre-departure test, Day 2 PCR, Day 8 PCR and quarantine for 10 days. You can opt for Day 5 Test to Release.

From the end of October
  • Fully-vaccinated UK travellers will still be required to take a Day 2 test. However, a faster, cheaper lateral flow/rapid antigen test will replace the PCR test.

  • Non-fully vaccinated travellers must take a pre-departure test, Day 2 PCR, Day 8 PCR and quarantine for 10 days. You can opt for Day 5 Test to Release.

It is possible for PCR tests to remain positive for sometime after Covid-19 infection. Anyone who has previously received a positive test result for Covid-19 should only be re-tested within a 90-day period if they develop any new symptoms of Covid-19.
