At-home health MOT

Your journey to better health starts here. Take your first step today with an at-home Qured Health Check.

The Qured Health Check has been developed by our expert clinicians to provide you with essential insights into your health, which is more important than ever in the context of the current Coronavirus pandemic. As we continue to learn more about the virus, we are seeing that it can affect almost all systems of the body. A Qured Health Check can help you understand your current mental and physical wellbeing and highlight areas that may have been affected or may be vulnerable to Covid-19 and give you the information you need to achieve optimum wellbeing.

Step 1 - Health Screening Tool

A detailed series of questions to understand your current physical and mental health status including any past medical issues, any medications that you are currently taking and any risk factors you may have for certain common health conditions.

Step 2 - Home Health Screening

Our home health screening is a thorough physical assessment of your body to ensure we can help get you in the best shape possible.

Our health MOT measures your height and weight and then can calculate your body mass index, which is a key parameter when assessing your risk for conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. It is important to understand how your lungs are functioning by measuring your oxygen levels in your blood and your respiratory rate. Your blood pressure and pulse are key for the health of not just your heart, but your brain, kidneys, eyes and many other body systems. We will also screen a sample of urine in your home to check for blood, infection, protein and sugar.

Step 3 - Home Blood Tests

Qured has partnered with leading diagnostic and secondary care specialists, to bring cutting-edge investigations to your home.

Step 4 - Understanding your results

A Qured GP will will review all your results and observation data. They will be able to explain clearly what the findings are from each step of the assessment and what this means for your health.

Step 5 - Management and Recommendations

We believe that patient input into your health management plan is vital to ensure realistic and achievable goals are set.

Once your Qured GP has analysed the results of the full health check and blood tests, they will offer lifestyle advice as well tailored clinical advice. You will receive a personalised management plan to ensure you have a clear road map to your best health. On occasion, the GP may recommend an in-person GP consultation, further tests or referral to a specialist. Qured will be happy to facilitate this if needed.

We will draw blood that will be sent to the lab to test for the following:

Full blood count

This tests for the numbers of red and white blood cells in your blood which can help test for:

  • Infection and the health of your immune system

  • anaemia

  • tiredness or weakness

  • bleeding or clotting problems

  • allergic responses propensity

  • Blood cancers

Renal Profile

Your kidneys play an important role in filtering your blood of waste products and regulating the salts in your blood. The kidneys are resolute organs and are able to function despite being impaired without showing any physical symptoms. It is crucial any impairment is identified early and this can be achieved with a blood test.

Optimal kidney function is vital to ensure blood pressure control, heart health, red cell production and many other body processes.

The test will identify if there are any abnormalities in your salts (sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate). It will also identify creatine and urea levels and filtration rates of the kidney to see if the kidneys are functioning optimally

Liver Function Test

The liver performs over 500 functions to keep the body healthy. These include alcohol and drug metabolism, chemical filtration of the blood, vitamins and mineral storage, and bile production to aid the digestive system.

The blood sample looks for  proteins, enzymes, and other substances that indicate how well your liver is working. They can also show if there is damage to liver cells or if there is an issue with blood flow to the liver.

Thyroid Function Test

This blood tests for hormones in the blood made by the thyroid gland

The thyroid is a soft gland that sits in the front of the neck. It produces hormones that  regulate many body functions. Derangement in the function of the gland can affect the following.

  • temperature

  • metabolism, which is how your body converts food into energy

  • heart rate

  • muscle tone

  • energy levels

Lipid Profile

This test looks at the level of fats in your blood, including total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol (often called good cholesterol), LDL-cholesterol (often called bad cholesterol), and triglycerides. A high level of bad cholesterol and/or triglycerides in your blood is a risk for heart disease, strokes and diabetes. Using this blood test, along with other parameters measured in the Qured health check, our GP will be able to quantify the risk of you having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years using the accredited Q-risk score.

CRP

The C-reactive protein (CPR) test is a blood test that checks for infection or inflammation in the body. It is used to detect the severity of inflammation or whether you are responding to treatment.

Glucose

This is also known as a blood sugar test and can help identify if you have or at risk of diabetes

Hba1C

HbA1c refers to glucose and haemoglobin joined together (glycated haemoglobin). Haemoglobin is the protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body. Therefore the amount of HbA1c formed is directly related to the amount of glucose in your blood.

Red blood cells live for up to 4 months, so HbA1c gives an indication of how much sugar you’ve had in your blood over the past few months. This can aid in diagnosing and monitoring diabetes.

It’s different to the blood glucose which measures how much sugar you have in your blood at that moment.

Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein that helps store iron in your body.

Iron is an essential part of many cells in your body, including blood and muscle cells. In particular, iron is a vital part of haemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells that helps carry oxygen around the body.

If you have too little ferritin, this can lead to you having too few red blood cells and becoming anaemic.

Having too much iron in your body can cause damage to your heart, your liver, your pancreas and your joints.

The following tests are included in the Enhanced package:

Bone Profile with Vitamin D

This panel tests for calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase and vitamin D

Calcium is important for strong bones, as well as for the healthy functioning of nerves, muscles and heart. You can usually get enough calcium from your diet, although in some cases a supplement is needed

Phosphate contains the mineral phosphorus. Phosphorus works together with the calcium to build strong bones and teeth. Normally, the kidneys filter and remove excess phosphate from the blood so excess levels could indicate a kidney function abnormality.

Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Any condition that affects bone growth or causes increased activity of bone cells can affect ALP levels in the blood. An ALP test may be used, for example, to detect cancers that have spread to the bones.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps your body absorb the calcium it needs to keep your bones and muscles strong and healthy. Low vitamin D levels can result in weak bones that break with trivial injury. Low vitamin D levels also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and worsening cognitive function.

Uric Acid

Uric acid is a normal substance found in the blood that comes from the breakdown of cells and the food and drink we consume.

Uric acid can build up either because the kidneys do not excrete it quickly enough, or because too much is being produced. The excess can form crystals in the joints (known as ‘urate’). Gout occurs when these crystals cause sudden and severe inflammation of the joint. This can be extremely painful. In some cases uric acid can rise steadily in the blood before triggering a gout episode.

B12

You need vitamin B12 in your blood so you can make blood cells and have your nerves function well. A deficiency in B12 can sometimes explain vague symptoms you may be experiencing such as pins and needles, lethargy, lightheadedness, a sore tongue, fast heart rate and many more.

Folate

Folate is an important nutrient for making normal red blood cells and for repairing cells and nerve tissue in the body.

Insufficient levels of folate can cause anaemia, nerve issues, confusion. Folate is vital for a baby’s normal brain and spinal cord development, so many women are checked for folate deficiency before falling pregnant.

Creatinine Kinase (CK)

CK is a type of protein, known as an enzyme. It originates mostly from your skeletal muscles and heart and with lesser amounts in the brain. Derangements in CK can cause muscle pain and/or cramps, muscle weakness, balance problems and numbness or tingling.

It is important to note that a health check can never completely assess all aspects of your health and is an assessment of your health at a specific point in time. It is also important to remember that an abnormal reading in any parameter from the health check does not always mean that you have a particular health problem but it may indicate that further investigation may be required. In the same way a normal reading for any parameter does not always mean there is no risk of a health condition developing. A Qured GP will analyse the assessment and formulate a shared management plan and we always recommend that you share the health check results with your regular GP who will have access to all your health history. If at any point after your health check you develop new symptoms or have any concerns please consult us or your regular GP as soon as possible.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information on how we provide our services and limitations on our liability.
